To uphold the integrity of the industry, members are encouraged to demonstrate

Knowledge & Experience – A background in covert surveillance or a related field.
Training & Certification – Completion of accredited surveillance training courses.
Insurance Policies – Appropriate professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
ICO Registration – Compliance with UK data protection laws through registration with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Equipment Standards – Use of lawful, professional-grade surveillance equipment.

Membership levels

Associate Membership – Open to newcomers or those in training, offering guidance on meeting industry standards.
Professional Membership – For experienced operatives with training certification and relevant insurance.
Corporate Membership – For companies meeting legal, ethical, and professional requirements.

While full compliance with these standards is encouraged, we recognise that individuals are at different stages in their professional journey. The BSA supports all members in progressing towards best practices and legal compliance within the UK surveillance industry.
